2nd Grade
Mrs. Nicole SewardIn 2nd grade we are respectful to ourselves and others. We are thankful for God and Jesus and embrace learning more about them. October is a special month as our class prepares and leads a St. Francis Pet Blessing. This is an exciting year for 2nd graders as we build on their spiritual knowledge as they prepare for their First Reconciliation in the fall and their First Communion in the spring! We follow the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English/Language Arts and Mathematics. Reading and literacy is integrated throughout our entire day with everything we do. We have thematic units such as frogs, owls, mammals, weather and soil. We use both fiction and non-fiction books when investigating our topics. Reading and writing happens every day in our class. 2nd graders love doing reader’s theater to enhance their fluency. Spelling words and tests are introduced this year as well as continued word wall work. We receive the Scholastic News weekly and are kept informed of Science and Social Studies topics, along with the guidance of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). In math, topics include: operations and algebraic thinking, number and operations in base ten, measurement and data and geometry. We are busy! 2nd grade is wonderful!
