Today\u2019s readings invite us to reflect on responsibility, correction, forgiveness, and commitment within our Christian community. Because of our human weakness and sinfulness, we all need God\u2019s mercy and forgiveness. We turn with confidence to God, our loving Father, knowing that just as we are bound to Him in love, we are also bound to one another. Our faith is never lived alone; we have a responsibility for the spiritual well-being of one another.<\/p>\n
In the first reading, the prophet Ezekiel is given a serious responsibility: \u201cI have appointed you as a watchman for the house of Israel.\u201d God calls Ezekiel to speak when people are going in the wrong direction. This reminds us that God\u2019s covenant is not simply a private relationship between God and an individual. We belong to a community of faith, and therefore we are called to care for one another and to help one another remain faithful to the Lord. Correcting someone who is doing wrong is not about judging or condemning that person. It is about loving enough to speak the truth and to help a brother or sister return to the right path.<\/p>\n
The Gospel gives us a practical way of doing this. Jesus says that if someone sins against us, we should first speak to that person privately. If that does not work, we involve one or two others, and finally, if necessary, the wider community. The goal at every step is not punishment or revenge, but repentance and reconciliation. Jesus teaches us not to allow anger, resentment, or an unforgiving heart to take control of us. Christian correction must always be guided by love and the desire to restore the person to the community.<\/p>\n
Saint Paul, in the second reading, gives us the foundation for all of this: \u201cLove does no evil to the neighbor; hence, love is the fulfillment of the law.\u201d Love is the clearest manifestation of God\u2019s presence in our lives. When we truly love as Christ loves, we can forgive, correct with humility, and seek reconciliation rather than division.<\/p>\n
Today, the Lord reminds us that we are responsible for one another. Sometimes loving our neighbor means encouraging; sometimes it means forgiving; and sometimes it means having the courage to correct someone with humility and compassion. At the same time, we must be humble enough to accept correction when others lovingly point out our faults. May God give us the grace to become a community where truth is spoken with love, forgiveness is freely offered, and every effort is made to bring one another closer to Christ.<\/p>\n
