Jesus begins the Gospel by saying, \u201cFear not,\u201d or \u201cDo not be afraid.\u201d Throughout His public ministry, He repeatedly encourages His disciples not to live in fear. These words speak directly to us today because fear continues to be a part of our daily lives. We worry about our health, the well-being of our families, our financial security, political uncertainties, natural disasters, and even death itself. Fear is a common human experience. Yet Jesus reveals that fear should not dominate our lives because it often reflects a lack of trust in God’s loving care and providence. God does not want His children to live as prisoners of anxiety but as people of faith and hope.<\/p>\n
In the first reading, the prophet Jeremiah stands as a powerful example of trust in God amid suffering and opposition. He was surrounded by enemies and experienced terror on every side. Yet, in the midst of his trials, Jeremiah professed an unshakable confidence in God’s presence and protection. Despite his fears, he remained convinced that God was at work, defending the innocent and bringing justice in His own time.<\/p>\n
Jesus reaffirms this same truth in the Gospel when He says, \u201cAre not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head are counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.\u201d These words remind us that everything is in God’s hands. Nothing escapes His attention. If God cares for the smallest birds of the air, how much more does He care for each one of us, His beloved children? This is a spiritual truth that remains firm and unchanging, even in times of disappointment, sadness, suffering, and evil. God’s love is greater than our fears, His power is stronger than any threat, and His providence never abandons us.<\/p>\n
As we continue our journey of faith, let us place our trust more fully in the Lord. When fears arise, let us remember that we are known, loved, and protected by God. The Lord who cared for Jeremiah, who watched over the disciples, and who counts every hair on our heads is the same Lord who walks beside us today. Therefore, let us not allow fear to have the final word. Instead, let faith, hope, and trust in God’s unfailing love guide our hearts, knowing that whatever happens, we belong to Him and are precious in His sight.<\/p>\n
